Honda CR-V

Question

A service customer of ours has a 2011 Honda CR-V which is suffering with a vibration through the vehicle when the engine is idling or on light throttle. The vibration is more pronounced in cold weather. We have experienced the vibration but are struggling to find the source of the fault. Is this something you have heard of before?

Answer

Yes, we have experienced this vibration on CR-V models. The rear exhaust silencer mounting rubbers are excessively compressed due to the silencer hanger brackets being incorrectly positioned. Remove the rear exhaust silencer. Adjust the rear exhaust silencer hanger brackets, raise the LH hanger bracket by 2-3 mm and lower the RH hanger bracket by 2-3 mm. Refit rear exhaust silencer. Carry out road test to confirm the fault has been rectified.

Volkswagen Golf VI

Question

We have a 2012 Volkswagen Golf 2,0 GTI in the workshop and the customer is complaining of a rattling noise from the engine bay when driving at 1800-2900 rpm. We have heard the rattling noise on road test but cannot recreate the fault in the workshop. Are you aware of a rattling noise from the engine on this model?

Answer

We are aware of several Volkswagen models with engine codes CCZA/CCZB/CCZC/CCZD suffering with the noise you have described. The rattling noise is due to excessive play between the turbocharger (TC) wastegate regulating valve control rod and the exhaust manifold flap arm. Fit a spring clip, available from Volkswagen parts department, to the turbocharger (TC) wastegate regulating valve control rod. Carry out road test to ensure rattling noise has been eliminated.
