2022’s top car brands and makes revealed

It was a massive 2022 for the Australian auto industry, with well over one million vehicles sold across the nation according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

The magic figure of 1,081,429w as reached in spite of COVID constraints and other delays to supply chains. The total was overwhelmingly dominated by one particular brand: Toyota which took up 21.4 per cent of that total.
A majority of Toyota’s 231,050 cars sold in 2022 were Hi-Lux’s, with a whopping 64,391 sold.
Mazda followed up in second with 95,718 cars sold last year, with Kia finishing third with 78,330.

“While 2022 has been a year of resilience and recovery, 2023 is shaping up as one of the most significant in recent history, particularly in terms of the development of policies that set the direction for the future decarbonisation of the light vehicle fleet,” FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said.
