2025 mid-year motorcycle sales show rise in scooters

Australian bikers are shifting the markets, as the new half-yearly figures reveals a slight change in what’s popular.

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industry (FCAI) released motorcycle and off-highway vehicle sales for the first half of the year.

The total sales for the January – July period in 2025 is nearly identical to 2024, however, scooter sales have increased by 6.8 per cent compared to this time last year, whilst Off-highway vehicles are down 5.5 per cent.

Off-road motorcycles (ORB) also saw sales growth by 3.3 per cent, whilst road bikes remain steady, falling slightly by 1.9 per cent.

The growth in both scooters and ORBs “suggests evolving trends in both recreation and urban transport,” FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said.

Despite some changes in the sales of individual products, Weber insists that “there remains strong competition and a wide range of product available to consumers.”

Regarding brands, Yamaha was the top selling brand, followed by fellow Japanese brands Honda and Kawasaki.

Webber maintained that, “the industry remains focused on safety innovation and rider engagement across all segments.”
