Car sales in Australia are on-track to break the full-year record in new car sales after a bumper November.
Figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) found 112,141 new vehicles were sold in Australia last month.
“This is an extraordinary result in what is now likely to be an extraordinary record-breaking year,” FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said.
“Another record-breaking month underscores the dynamic and competitive nature of Australia’s automotive landscape, showcasing the wide array of choices available to consumers.”
Toyota (195,959) looks to retain its title of top car brand in Australia, with sales more than doubling its closest competitor Mazda (91,243).
The battle for top vehicle in Australia in 2023, however, will come down to the wire between the Hi-Lux and Ford Ranger, both of which have been exchanging the top spot month-to-month.
Another staggering stat is the increase in EV sales in Australia, with 80,446 sold already in 2023 versus only 28,826 last year
“As the challenges of the past year’s supply chain disruptions recede, consumers have greater access to a broad range of choices and increased accessibility in the market,” Weber added.
“The automotive sector remains a testament to the resilience and adaptability of both industry players and consumers alike. However, as cost-of-living pressures hit we may see a market cooling in the coming months, and we anticipate a more challenging 2024.”
