Dayco Racer Takes Carrera Cup Pro-Am Runner-Up Spot

Dayco Australia joined forces with experienced Tag Heuer Pro-Am racer Roger Lago in the 2019 Payce Porsche Carrera Cup at eight closely fought rounds held across Australia from February to October.

Lago entered the series finale on the streets of Surfers Paradise from October 25 to 27 locked in a three way battle for the Pro-Am championship after a highly competitive season.

It was never going to be an easy task for the Brisbane based racer as this was his first time competing on the concrete walled Surfers Paradise Street Circuit, but the Dayco racer made the most of the exciting final round with strong progress in both practice and qualifying.

After a great start in the opening sprint race, Lago’s weekend was almost over when he narrowly missed Pro-Am points leader Damian Flack who crashed heavily at turn 11. Lago’s pace in the second sprint race on a Saturday was faster than his qualifying lap times, the Dayco Porsche racer engaging in a close battle with his two other Pro-Am title challengers, Flack and Liam Talbot, managing to keep Flack at bay all the way to the chequered flag. This would prove pivotal to securing the season runner-up result.

A great start in the third and final race on Sunday saw Lago drive a smart race to finish his season with an unscathed car and second place in the 2019 Tag Heuer Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship. The Pro-Am title went to Talbot, who finished the season 30 points ahead of Lago with Flack eight points behind in third.

According to Dayco Vice President, Aftermarket Asia Pacific, Arnold Mouw, Dayco’s involvement in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia during 2019 has been rewarding.

“We extend our congratulations to Roger Lago and his team on their efforts this season. The television and event coverage certainly exceeded our expectations and we have been able to leverage our involvement through our company’s Australian and global marketing activities as well. Our customers love the car and we look forward to the 2020 season,” Mr Mouw stated.

The 2020 Payce Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship will once again be held in support of major Supercars events, as per calendar below.
