Description

We are delighted to offer for sale an original LHD Series 2 Alfa Romeo Spider which has benefited from a recent full rotisserie restoration with little use since its completion.
The records we have confirm it is a matching numbers car and was produced in May 1973 and delivered to Englewood Cliffs in the USA. The body colour was Blue AR 323 with Amaranth Tex interior which it wears today.
The Alfa Romeo 105/115 Series Spiders were produced in 4 Series and originally penned by Pininfarina himself. It is arguably one of the most appealing Alfa Romeo designs to date and remained in production between 1966 and 1994.
Documents that come with the car confirm its history in California before it came to Australia in 1991 when it was imported to Katherine N.T by L.D Wilcox. It remained in that ownership until the current owner purchased it in 2015.
Shortly after that time, the current owner began a comprehensive restoration which took six years to complete. He has cherished the car but due to health reasons was unable to drive it much after completion. It now needs to find a new home and an owner who will enjoy it.
As part of the restoration, the shell of the car was stripped to bare metal, and any compromised metal replaced. It was then painted in its original blue colour which was well applied and presents extremely well since it was finished some 3 years ago.
The interior is a lovely place to be. The beautifully restored wooden steering wheel (its the best weve seen) greets the eye and the classic dash is very appealing. The instruments are perfect, and the dash is without fault.
The seats have been recovered over new bases and seat back foam and the door cards replaced as per original and are like new. A full carpet set finishes the interior off well and adds a touch of luxury.
The new, correct type of blue mohair hood is fitted and looks fresh. The car wears its correct alloy wheels which have been refurbished.
Start the engine and you immediately know you are in an Alfa Romeo. The 2 litre engine fires up with that familiar growl and then you are away. Out on the open road this car drives well, and the rebuilt gearbox is a delight to use without any issues on any of the synchros. The engine bay is pin sharp as you would expect from a thoroughly restored car. The SPICA Fuel Injection system has been rebuilt by a renowned expert and works perfectly.
Invoices accompanying the car total over $40,000 for parts alone. There are several folders and files with useful history and relevant documents including every note and piece of correspondence between the owner and various parties involved in the restoration.
For the new owner this presents a wonderful opportunity to own a well restored matching numbers Spider in original specification with all the work done and at a fraction of the cost of a restoration.
