A HOTLY TUNED BUG EYE
Released in 1958 to rave reviews the all new Austin Healey Sprite was an immediate success, with its spritely performance and precise handling, selling 48,987 MkIs in their 3 year production run. Sprites were very successful in all levels of motor sport and chalked class wins at Sebring, the Alpine Rally and many more, including 12th outright at Le Mans in 1965.
This Sprite was assembled in Australia at BMCs assembly plant in Zetland, New South Wales and was delivered new by Larke Hoskin of Sydney. Retaining its factory, steel bonnet, this Bugeye presents in the striking colour of Monza Red.
Fitted with 60 spoke painted wire wheels with twin eared chrome knock ons, the Sprite encourages you to jump in and drive. Once in the cabin you are met by Black vinyl trim with White piping, period style wood-rimed Mota-Lita steering wheel, an optional Smiths heater and a full compliment of Smiths guages. Weather equipment includes a Black vinyl soft top with side curtains and tonneau cover.
Fitted with an uprated 1275cc A-Series Engine and Ribcase gearbox, the Sprite also features sensible upgrades including: a 45DCOE Weber Carburettor, an extractor exhaust system, spin-on oil filter, electronic ignition, oil cooler and front disc brakes to ensure that the engine runs sweetly, is reliable and importantly stops well.
This cheeky MkI Sprite is superb fun to drive and presents a fantastic opportunity to own and enjoy a charismatic and iconic British sportscar which is ready to be used on club events, touring the countryside or a fun trip to your favourite coffee shop.
