Description

1972 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2-door T-top Sport Coupe powered by a 5.7L 350cui-2v 4-bbl V8 GM Chevy small block engine matched to a THM350 3-speed console-shift automatic transmission and driven through a positraction 10-bolt rear differential w/ 3.08:1 gearing.

Lifelong Southern Californian Stingray
Matching #'s 350 4-bbl V8
THM350 3-spd Automatic Transmission
Power Steering
Power-Assisted 4-Wheel Disc Brakes

This Corvette was produced on the 25th January 1972 in GM's, St. Louis, Missouri plant as a Stingray 2-dr T-top sport coupe and was fitted with a base 5.7L 350cui-2v 4-bbl 200hp V8 GM Chevy small block engine that was matched with a THM350 3-speed console-shift automatic transmission and driven through a positraction 10-bolt rear differential w/ 3.08:1 gearing. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in GM's Ontario Orange paint and trimmed with standard Saddle vinyl upholstery and Tan carpet.

1968 saw the introduction of the 3rd generation of the Corvette (C3), and this so-called "Shark" generation was a very different sort of sports car than its predecessors - what was a dual-purpose race-and-ride machine had evolved into more of a plush and powerful boulevard cruiser. 1972 was the last model year for chrome bumpers at both front and rear, the vacuum actuated pop-up windshield wiper door, as well as the removable rear window common to all 1968-72 coupes. The key activated anti-theft alarm system became standard. The increasingly popular choice of an automatic transmission was installed in most Corvettes for the first time, with nearly 54% so equipped.

This Corvette is a factory Ontario Orange car, and the paint appears still to be the factory original, with no signs of a repaint. Being original paint, the car has lost its lustre and is showing fading. A good cut & polish should restore it to its former glory. The body panels show very straight, with the typical stone chips and a few minor scuffs from its 53 years of history. The car is very presentable having been garaged its entire life. The upholstery is the factory original Saddle vinyl and shows in very good condition for its age. The T-tops are also in great condition.

The matching numbers V8 engine always starts right up and settles into a smooth idle. It runs and drives very well, with no overheating problems evident. It is a factory air conditioned car, however the compressor has been removed at some point in time and not replaced. Other features of this '72 model include fully independent suspension, positraction rear axle, hidden windshield wipers, pop-up headlights, Astro ventilation, and full instrumentation including tachometer, ammeter, oil pressure & temperature gauges.

This Stingray is an unmolested original lifelong Southern Californian car, and as such the frame is very dry and original and shows no rust. The car also shows absolutely no accident damage. This Corvette is still wearing its original 'Blue & Yellow' Californian number plates and it is very hard to find a true unmolested stock survivor car in this condition!
