Description
Impossible to replace survivor 1975 Holden HJ Kingswood 253 V8 4 speed manual optioned with bucket seats, Air-conditioning, twin mirrors and Outback Pack and with a genuine log booked 166,981 Klms on the clock. For sale from Ballarat, VIC.
In early 1975 a Mr. Stuart Cowan, a sheep and grain farmer from Yarpeet in the North West Wimmera, Victoria decided he needed a bigger and more powerful vacation and Sunday car for his family. Widely regarded as a meticulous farmer who never left his tractors in the paddocks overnight, and after a prosperous grain harvest, he visited Strauss Bros in Rainbow, Country Victoria, the local Holden dealer, where he negotiated the trade in of his HR Holden on a new HJ Kingswood. The Strauss Brothers order form accompanying the car notes the original cost of the HJ Kingswood at $4,015 to which a further $1,264 of options were fitted to the car.
The build included Persian Sands paint, the 253 V8, a 4 speed floor shift with console and reclining bucket seats, Air-conditioning, additional oil and temp gauges, floor carpets, twin side mirrors, wide wheels and the Outback Pack. Setting the car up to tow the family caravan, he added a heavy duty towbar, Heavy Duty overrider rear springs, adjustable air shockers, electric brakes, hazard lights and twin thermo electric fans. Mr Cowan further added mudflaps, a twin stainless exhaust system, Air Chief radio with 4 speakers, a rear venetian blind, passenger footwell convenience tray, kill switch and additional temp gauge. Always garaged and rarely used, the HJ stayed in the Cowan family until purchased by the current (and only other) owner in November 2007 with 151,408 Kilometres on the clock.
The current owner had a closed door respray completed in 2008, fitted new Kings Springs all round, Premier kick plates, new carpets, power steering and the GTS rims. He also fitted a hidden Bluetooth stereo. The HJ features factory fitted Air-conditioning that still blows cold via the original compressor.
The interior underscores the low mileage and care the original owner took of his beloved Kingswood. In fact the interior trim is in exceptional as new condition from the seat trims, door cards, steering wheel, dash, hood lining, gauges and crash pad.
Mechanically, the HJ runs like a dream with the stock matching numbers 253 V8 purring away. The engine has never been rebuilt and has been well looked after with maintenance carried out on a regular basis. The current owner has continued to thoroughly maintain the Kingswood, has fitted extractors, serviced the radiator and regassed the A/C. The Kingswood is running the original single barrel carby, through the extractors and then through to a twin system exhaust replacing the factory single system.
The current owner has also fitted King Springs all round (original springs are included) and the HJ rides on genuine factory 14" GTS rims with 225/60x14 tyres all round. The Kingwood steel rims with caps and dress rims and good white wall tyres are included in the sale. The spare in the boot is the original steel rim with an older tyre and the original boot mat.
This is a super original classic Holden, unmolested and in excellent condition with full documentation including the original Strauss Brothers sales invoice, log books, owners manual, warranty paperwork, two sets of original keys, the original dealer sticker on the rear window and even the original Assembly Line Carpet Tag and sample. The Kingswood also comes complete with the re-issued original Victorian plates IAL-799 as confirmed in the log books.
Located in Ballarat, VIC. Currently on club registration. (Ref: 6485)
If you wish, we will gladly arrange an actual/video inspection tour of the car and of course there is no issue with door to door freight delivery anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
