Description

HSV literally rocked the Australian performance car scene in 1996 with the release of the XU-3 yellow VS GTS-R. Marketed as the closest HSV road car you could get to its race winning HRT Australian Touring Car championship cars, only 85 GTS-Rs were built. 75 for the Australian market and 10 for New Zealand. For sale is Build No. 81, a New Zealand delivered HSV and now for sale from Tauranga, North Island, New Zealand.

This super limited edition flagship HSV was only available in XU-3 Yellah with Carbon fibre inserts and the huge HRT inspired carbon fibre rear wing. Running gear was the HSV and Ron Harrop designed stroker L98 engine, with a bore of 101.6mm and stroke of 88.4, measuring 5737cc. Power was increased from the 185kW and 400Nm of torque for the five-litre, to the stroker 5.7 litres 215kW and 475Nm of torque at the same revs. That combined with the Tremec T56 six-speed transmission and "Hydratrak" limited slip differential (LSD) package made for a car with the show and lots of go.

Ten GTS-Rs (Bld No. 76 to 85) were built by HSV and sent to HSV dealerships in New Zealand. Build No. 81 has spent all of its driving life in the North Island of New Zealand. This very special HSV has covered a genuine documented 60,447 Kilometres and is presented for sale in immaculate unmolested and totally original condition with the numbered HSV Compendium and Authenticity Certificate. The GTS-R was sold to the original owner on the 26th September, 1996 and then to the second owner on the 22nd, February 2000 with 29,266 Klms on the clock. The GTS-R was sold to the third owner on the 4th July, 2001 with 30,257 Klms on the clock. This owner enjoyed HSV GTS-R #81 for 13 years. The GTS-R was purchased by the current owner on the 16th May, 2016 with 58,744 Klms on the clock and the car is supplied with a New Zealand ownership history report.

Externally, the GTS-R features all the original factory Yellah paint with nil marks, a few minor stone chips and no bumps or bruises. All the carbon fibre is in excellent condition with no pealing. The interior features the matching GTS-R cloth trim in exceptional condition with no wear to the seat bolsters, original yellow threaded steering wheel and gear knob, factory power steering, power windows, air-conditioning, 10 stacker Sony CD player and powered mirrors. The dash features the HSV build plaque noting the car is build number 81 and the centre armrest still features the original build date sticker for March, 1996. All carpets, roof lining, door cards and parcel shelf are in original and tidy condition.

Mechanically, the GTS-R has been maintained with regular servicing using recommended oils and performs as a stroker HSV should. The car has been fitted with an engine strut brace but otherwise is factory original.

The GTS-R is riding on the factory alloy rims with Bridgestone Potenza 235/45R17 tyres. The original spare wheel is shod in a Bridgestone Expedia 205/55 ZR16 with factory tools.

The GTS-R is a stand out collector car and a must for any red blooded Aussie or New Zealand car enthusiast. Rare and certainly a gold plated muscle car investment!

Located in Tauranga, North Island, New Zealand. We can assist with the import of the car back to Australia if required. (Ref: 6382)

If you wish we will gladly arrange a video tour/inspection of the car using WhatsApp and of course there is no issue with door to door enclosed transport anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
