Drive Against Depression (DAD) is preparing to conclude a successful 2024 with its final drive event in Adelaide on November 17.
After a year filled with events across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide, the Australian mental health charity will host a scenic Adelaide Hills drive from Windy Point to Birdwood, where participants will enjoy reserved parking and explore Birdwood’s renowned National Motor Museum.
In collaboration with AnglicareSA, participants will be introduced to StandBy Support After Suicide, a national program providing support to those affected by suicide.
Adelaide Coordinator Michelle Roberts will present an abridged version of StandBy’s “What Do I Say, What Do I Do” workshop.
Roberts noted, “AnglicareSA is looking forward to supporting the DAD event here in Adelaide. We want to share with the participants how StandBy can support people bereaved by suicide.”
Sarah Davis, Co-Founder of DAD, highlighted the shared purpose between DAD and StandBy, stating.
“We both seek to provide a meaningful means of connection and support and reduce the risk factors associated with death by suicide,” she said.
Important drive
She emphasised DAD’s unique approach that combines education, mental health tools, and a passion for motoring to create judgment-free environments where participants feel comfortable discussing mental health.
DAD’s growth this year underscores the increasing need for community-focused mental wellness programs.
“The demand for DAD events has continued to increase, and we are humbled by the impact of our approach,” Davis said.
Alongside expanding its event calendar, DAD is also inviting sponsors and partners to support its mission. “Sponsors and partners are crucial in helping to fund DAD’s important mental health work,” Davis remarked.
A recent partnership with Talked, an Australian online therapy platform, exemplifies DAD’s commitment to offering resources beyond the events themselves. This collaboration allows participants to continue their mental health journey with professional guidance, supporting DAD’s mission to facilitate lasting connections and mental wellness.
Registration and sponsorship opportunities are now open for the Adelaide Spring Drive Day, offering participants an opportunity for connection, support, and community mental health advocacy.
