The Toyota HiLux has returned to the top spot in Australian car sales data, which experienced a record month in May.
Toyota sold 5,772 HiLuxes in May, up 11.5 per cent from 2022 according to figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
Sales overall were up to a total of 105,694 vehicles sold in Australia (up 12 per cent on 2022) – a record result for the month of May.
“This result is a signal that we are starting to see some improvement in supply,” FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said.
“However, not all issues are resolved, and our members continue to work with their customers to improve vehicle delivery times.”
The HiLux’s return to the top comes after the Ford Ranger took the top sales spot in May.
Sales figures for battery electric vehicles were up 7.7 per cent compared to 2022, with all electrified vehicles accounting for 15.6 per cent of the market for the month.
Tesla continued its dominance in this area with the Model Y ranking near the top for the second consecutive month.
