The Toyota HiLux has been unseated once again by the Ford Ranger as the top car in Australia.
This is according to April sales figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
The HiLux sold 3,526 units in April, down 21.5 per cent from 2022. The Ranger just eked by with 3,567 sold, only down .4 per cent from last year.
The Ranger has beaten the HiLux twice this year in monthly sales figures.
Electric vehicles and other hybrids were a major winner in April, with five of the top 10 vehicle models sold in Australia using some form of electrification.
“Electric vehicles accounted for eight per cent of sales in April,” FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said.
“This is well up from 1.1 per cent compared with April 2022.
“If you take all forms of electrification, that number has increased from 9.5 per cent to 15.4 per cent, and we know this number would have been larger had the industry not faced global supply challenges.”
SUVs and light commercial vehicles took up 76.8 per cent of sales. Passenger vehicles only accounted for 18.5 per cent.
