Hyundai Veloster

A customer’s 2012 Hyundai Veloster is suffering with the rear brakes binding after the parking brake is released.

Question

We have cleaned the rear brakes on a couple of occasions but the problem is still apparent. Do you know of any fixes to stop the rear brakes binding?

Answer

Yes, the rear brake issue you have described affects Veloster models up to 28/02/12 with automatic transmission (AT).

The cause is water ingress into the parking brake caliper lever, causing corrosion. Remove the parking brake cables from both of the parking brake caliper levers. Check the measurement ‘A’ on both rear calipers (Fig.1). If the total measurement of both rear calipers is less than 3mm then fit a modified parking brake caliper lever kit available from Hyundai parts department. If the total measurement of both rear calipers is more than 3mm then fit modified rear brake calipers.

AUDI A4

A customer’s 2010 Audi A4 2.0 TDI has a rattling noise from the underside of the vehicle when driving.

Question

We have experienced the rattling noise on road test but have yet to find the cause in the workshop. We have visually checked the underside of the vehicle but have found no faults. Are you aware of this rattling noise?

Answer

Yes, we are aware of a rattling noise that affects the A4 (8K2/8K5) model up to 06/14. The cause of this noise is due to the centre exhaust silencer heat shield vibrating against the floor pan. Remove the centre exhaust silencer heat shield.

Thoroughly clean the area indicated on the floor pan (Fig. 2). Using bonding material, available from Audi parts department, apply a 5mm bead of bonding material covering an area of 40mm x 40mm to the location indicated on the floor pan (Fig. 2). Refit the centre exhaust silencer heat shield.

Fix centre exhaust silencer heat shield to bonding material. Carry out road test to ensure fault has been rectified.
