A 2014 Ford Kuga shows signs of engine overheating and engine malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) flashes while driving.
A customer’s 2014 1,6 petrol Ford Kuga is suffering with engine overheating, intermittent lack of power and the engine malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) flashes whilst driving. We have experienced the symptoms on road test but cannot source the cause of the fault in the workshop. Can you help?
Yes, the symptoms you have described match a recent vehicle that we know has been fixed. The faults affect Kuga models with 1,6 turbocharged petrol engines up to 05/16. The cause is damage to the engine coolant expansion tank due to unsatisfactory location of the breather hose connector.
Drain the cooling system. Remove and discard the coolant expansion tank breather hose (Fig.1 – step 1). Remove and discard coolant hose (Fig.1 – step 3). Fit new engine coolant expansion tank and expansion tank cap. Ensure the blanking plug, available from Ford parts department, is fitted to the engine coolant expansion tank breather hose connector (Fig.1 – step 2). Fit modified engine coolant expansion tank hose complete with breather hose (Fig.1 – step 3). Fill cooling system and bleed. Carry out road test to confirm faults are fixed.
A 2010 Volkswagen Polo rear door window glass drops abruptly when opening.
A customer of ours with a 2010, 5 door Volkswagen Polo is complaining that the rear door window glass drops abruptly when opening. We removed the rear door trim and found the window glass detached from the window winder mechanism. We reattached the window glass to the window winder mechanism but the car has now returned with the same issue. Is this a known fault?
The door window glass repeatedly becoming detached from the window winder mechanism is a fault known to us. It is due to the door window glass locating bush being dislodged or faulty. Remove the rear door trim. Remove the rear door window glass. Check the door window glass for damage and replace if necessary. Cut adhesive tape, available from Volkswagen parts department, into 6 mm x 55 mm strips. Wrap a new door window glass locating bush, available from Volkswagen parts department, with adhesive tape to a diameter of 13.4 mm (Fig.2). Fit the door window glass locating bush to the door window glass. Lock the locating bush in place with an expander pin. Refit the rear door window glass. Refit the rear door trim. Repeat procedure for the opposite side. Carry out operation of the rear door window glass to ensure fault have been rectified.
