Nissan unveils striking new Navara ute for Australia

Nissan has unveiled the next-generation Navara, signalling a major step forward for the nameplate as it approaches its 40th anniversary in Australia and New Zealand.

Set to go on sale in late Q1 2026, the new model builds on four decades of local heritage.

Since its introduction in 1986, nearly 500,000 Navaras have been sold across the trans-Tasman region.

The latest model continues that legacy with a simplified launch range—offered exclusively as a double cab automatic—to reflect the buying habits of outgoing D23 Navara customers. Built on a robust Alliance platform, the new Navara blends global engineering with extensive local calibration.

Sleek era

“The new Navara represents what Australian drivers need from their pickup truck in this region,” Nissan Oceania Managing Director Andrew Humberstone said.

“This isn’t just evolution – it’s built on four decades of Nissan experience, with deep Australian insights and a unique suspension calibration, tuned by Premcar specifically for our arduous conditions.”

Premcar’s work underpins the ute’s capability, delivering locally tuned suspension across all grades and ensuring confident handling whether unladen, loaded or towing the Navara’s 3,500 kg braked capacity.

“The local suspension development program represents one of the most comprehensive engineering projects undertaken by Nissan here in Australia,” Humberstone said noting Premcar’s 18,000 km of testing across varied terrain.
Designers looked to Nissan’s ute heritage and Australian-modified vehicles for inspiration.

“When working on the new Navara, we aimed to honour nearly 40 years of heritage while creating something fresh for today’s Australian buyers,” Nissan Senior Design Director Ken Lee said.

Built big

Signature elements include a bold V-strut grille, C-shaped headlamps and, on PRO-4X models, blacked-out styling with Lava Red accents. Inside, all grades feature a spacious cabin supported by modern tech, including a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 7-inch TFT driver display. Higher grades add wireless charging and connected car services.

The powertrain is centred around a 2.4-litre turbodiesel producing 150kW and 470Nm, paired with a six-speed automatic and aided by Electric Power Steering for improved efficiency.

Advanced 4WD systems, including “Easy 4WD” and the ST-X/PRO-4X “Super 4WD” with seven terrain modes, deliver capability across all conditions. Backed by the Nissan MORE ownership program—including up to a 10-year/300,000km warranty—the new Navara is positioned to continue its long-standing success, with full local specifications to be confirmed ahead of its 2026 arrival.
