The iconic Penrite Oil Sandown 500 makes an eagerly awaited return in 2023 with the race set to make its comeback on September 15th-17th promising an unforgettable weekend of speed, strategy, and the first ever endurance event of the Camaro vs Mustang Gen3 era.
Located just 10km from Penrite Oil’s main headquarters in Dandenong South, the Penrite Sandown 500 is a truly special event for the company and fans alike. Looking back to the company’s history and product development, its best-selling HPR and 10 Tenths racing range of oils were originally tried, tested and developed by the Penrite team at Sandown and continue to be put to the test there to this day.
This ongoing testing and development produced the oils that are now not only the first choice for road cars but also for race cars in an embodiment of the process of testing on the track under the harshest of conditions to ensure that your vehicle performs at its best in all conditions.
For many of Penrite Oil’s customers, the lubricants and fluids they depend on were honed and put to the ultimate test at Sandown Raceway where high speeds, high temperatures and brutal conditions are the norm.

Toby Dymond, Penrite Oil CEO said “being naming rights of the iconic Sandown event is a great honour for our Australian family-owned company, the track is truly iconic and is very family oriented which really fits well with our brand.”
Sandown offers a great selection of viewing areas to suit everyone from Red Hill to the iconic Grandstand and Penrite Oil has some special surprises for the fans who come to the event including the chance to meet some of nearly 200-strong Team Penrite ambassadors racing in junior and senior categories around the country.
Returning to the much loved 500-kilometre endurance format after a three year absence, the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 reclaims its fan-favourite place as the first endurance race of the year and the prelude to the Bathurst 1000 where Penrite Oil again holds the title of the Official Oil in 2023.
Adding to the excitement of the event, the Penrite Racing team is set to debut its new endurance line up with reigning Bathurst 1000 champion and 2016 Sandown 500 race winner Garth Tander ready to race alongside international endurance driving specialist Kévin Estre who currently races in the FIA World Endurance Championship for Porsche in the Hypercar class.
After some stunning battles in the Nürburgring 24 Hours on one of the world’s most challenging circuits, race fans around the world will be treated to a great show. This eagerly anticipated event will see a pair of highly experienced and well accomplished co-drivers tackle a race that fellow Penrite Racing driver and previous Bathurst 1000 winner David Reynolds describes as extremely challenging with its high speeds, large curbs and punishing braking zones.
