Scooter sales mark another increase in struggling market

The scooter market provided the only growth for motorcycles and off-highway vehicle sales in Q1 2024.

Scooter sales grew 1.1 per cent from last year’s Australian sales figures, according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

“As Australians manage tighter finances, recreational products such as motorcycles are often the first to be affected,” FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said.
“The continued growth in scooter sales highlights a change in preferences in the Australian market and consumers shifting to mobility options that offer easier parking, quicker commute times and reduced fuel costs.”

Off-road motorcycles notched a 11.9 per cent decrease in sales between January and April 2024 (7,260 units) compared to last year.

Off-highway vehicle sales fell 16.1 per cent (2.960 vehicles) compared to 2023.
