Subaru has marked the milestone for an Aussie performance icon, the WRX/WRX STI, with over 70,000 units sold across the country since its launch in 1994.
The turbocharged Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive vehicle has captured the hearts of enthusiasts with its unique blend of everyday usability, rally-inspired performance, and unmistakable character.
A legacy of community
The WRX has played a defining role in shaping Subaru’s performance DNA and growing a passionate owner community. From its early days as the Impreza WRX to the current fifth-generation model, WRX has built a loyal following and inspired dedicated owner clubs across Australia.

Subaru Australia General Manager, Scott Lawrence, said the milestone is a testament to the enduring bond between WRX and its fans.
“WRX has always been more than just a car. It represents a spirit of fun and connection that has resonated with Australians for more than 30 years,” he said.

A heritage of excitement
The WRX has a rich history of innovation and excitement, from its rally-bred engineering to its signature features like Brembo brakes and STI-tuned suspension. The recent introduction of the WRX tS Spec B pays homage to the performance heritage that made WRX a household name.

“There’s something special about the way it makes people feel – that confidence behind the wheel, the sense of control, the grin it puts on your face,” Lawrence said.
As Subaru looks to the future, WRX remains a cornerstone of the brand’s performance lineup, continuing to deliver the same blend of power, control, and excitement that has defined it for over three decades.
