Vehicle sales have record July in Australia

vehicle sales Australia

July 2023 was the biggest month on record for vehicle sales in Australia.

This is according to the latest figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), who noted a 14.7 per cent increase in car sales compared to the previous record of July 2017 (92,754).
In total, 96,859 new vehicles were sold across Australia.

“During the past twelve months the issue has been one of securing supply for consumers, however as these pressures ease, we are starting to see a return to more stable market conditions,” FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said.
“Many of these vehicles were ordered several months ago, so it is important to monitor the broader economic conditions through 2023 and their impact on private and business demand.”

The Ford Ranger (5,143) took the top spot for the month over the super popular Toyota Hi-Lux (4,670). The MG ZS (3,852) also leaped the Tesla Model Y (3330) for third.
Zero and low-emission vehicle sales rose once again in Australia by 17.9 per cent on last year.
Passenger vehicles continue to regress in popularity in Australia as SUV popularity rises.

“Passenger vehicles now represent 17.7 per cent of the market in July while the SUV category now sits at 58.9 per cent,” Tony said.
“However, contrary to widely held opinion, not all SUVs are large vehicles as 75 per cent of SUV sales are in the medium, small and light categories.”
